Multi-academy Trust

The school is part of King Edward VI Foundation.

The Foundation’s history stretches back to the opening of King Edward’s School in 1552. For many centuries this remained the sole school within the organisation, until 1883, when six further King Edward VI schools were established: a sister school to King Edward’s School—King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS)—and five grammar schools, from which our current schools of King Edward VI Aston School, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, King Edward VI Five Ways School, and King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls originate.

Since 1 September 2017, the growth of the Foundation has accelerated significantly. On that date, the King Edward VI Academy Trust brought together its six existing academies and welcomed the newly renamed King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys. Expansion continued in September 2018 with Handsworth Wood Girls’ Academy, followed by King Edward VI Balaam Wood Academy in 2019 and King Edward VI Northfield School for Girls in 2021. In 2022, King Edward VI Lordswood School for Girls joined, bringing the total to 13 schools, and most recently, in January 2024, the Foundation welcomed King Edward VI King’s Norton School for Boys.

As the Foundation has expanded, so too have the opportunities for meaningful collaboration. Staff and students across all schools now benefit from shared expertise, aligned practice, and an increasing range of joint initiatives, strengthening the organisation’s collective capacity and enriching the educational experience for all.

All of the schools will continue to deliver the curriculum and to develop an ethos that demonstrates a commitment to supporting children from all backgrounds to reach their potential. All of the schools will continue to provide a caring environment which will be overseen by the current governors, heads and staff.

We begin this journey at a time when the education sector is facing many challenges. We remain committed to offering a broad and balanced curriculum, supported by excellent teachers, along with an exciting range of extra-curricular clubs and activities.
