All pupils in Years 7-11 have a weekly lesson of PE and, together with Years 12 and 13, a double lesson of Games each week. Further details on the PE curriculum can be found on the school’s web site (www.keaston.bham.sch.uk)
The department offers an extensive range of opportunities for the pupils to participate in competitive matches against other schools. In rugby, hockey, cricket and football the school runs year group sides and plays regular inter-school fixtures, including in league and cup competitions. Other sports such as basketball, badminton, table tennis and athletics have mixed teams that compete in local competitions.
We are seeking to appoint a committed and enthusiastic teacher who will lead the department, including the leadership and management of staff (teachers and coaches); curriculum planning; and data analysis. The ideal candidate will be a teacher who has shown the potential to lead and enjoys working as a member of a team, has an optimistic outlook and who is constantly seeking ways in which they can improve on their current practice.
Applicants will be expected to have extensive knowledge or experience of teaching at least two of the school’s main sports (athletics, cricket, hockey and rugby) and be prepared to be involved in extra-curricular activities including fixtures on a Saturday morning. The school also expects all PE teachers to lead and run activities on the weekly extra-curricular timetable of at least one pre-school, two lunchtime and two after school activities.
The school takes its responsibility for the safety of the students extremely seriously and applicants will be expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of their responsibilities in this area at all stages of the application process.
