Homework

Independent learning is a vital part of every student’s academic development. Homework allows pupils to consolidate the knowledge and skills they have learnt in class, strengthen their understanding and develop the self‑discipline and study habits needed for long‑term success.

Teachers will set homework when it is meaningful, purposeful and directly linked to the learning taking place in their subject. As a guide, students should expect to complete around 30 minutes of homework per subject per week in Key Stage 3, and approximately one hour per subject per week in Key Stage 4.

At Key Stage 5, homework remains an important element, but students are also expected to undertake significant independent study outside of lessons. This additional time is essential for managing reading and research and keeping pace with challenging A Level content.

Through consistent independent learning, we aim to help students become confident, responsible and successful learners both inside and beyond the classroom.
